Year 6 celebrated Chinese New Year in style as part of their Ancient Civilizations topic.

The children arrived, dressed head-to-toe in red and gold. The classroom was also prepared for the occasion and we settled down to some code-breaking maths tasks linked to Chinese New Year.

We then welcomed children from our Early Years department to join the Year 6 and to share our learning. It was fantastic to hear the younger children talking about rats and their dragon dance. We showed the children our topic books and our Chinese Dragon designs. There was a positive buzz in the classroom and it was really exciting to have the Early Years classes with us.

Later in the morning, we sampled a range of traditional Chinese snacks. The spicy seaweed was a little too spicy for some, however the prawn crackers seemed to go down well!

Working in small groups, we spent the afternoon producing some elaborate Chinese Dragons and these were presented in our Celebration Assembly. Dr Hope judged the designs and our winners received a prize for their hard work and creativity.

It was a wonderful day!
