Tate Collective – Creative Writing Challenge
During lockdown, Year 12 & 13 Art students were challenged to participate in a creative writing competition run by Tate Collective for the upcoming exhibition of Lynette Yiadom-Boakye. The task was to write up to 500 words about a piece of Yiadom-Boakye’s art work.
We are delighted to congratulate Aimee Shardlow, 13AGW, for coming in the top 30 out of over 500 entries. Aimee has been invited to a Poetic Response event at Tate Britain where she will also participate in a creative writing workshop.
Aimee wrote a highly emotive piece about the artwork ‘Condor and the Mole’. See an extract below:
‘The horizon. A place where my dreams are imagined. I cross my legs behind me, placing myself amongst the sand, feeling each grain rub against my bare skin. Perhaps I will stay here a while and think: what if? Can I? Will I?’
Well done Aimee!
We encourage all students to enter the competitions posted on their art google classroom and to use their talents.
