On Monday 27th January, 4 students, together with Miss Papanastasiou, participated in the Croydon Holocaust memorial day events which took place at Croydon Town Hall.  Holocaust Memorial Day saw people from across Croydon unite at this special ceremony in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall, 75 years after the liberation of Auschwitz.  Students prepared readings and spoke confidently and respectfully in front of the Mayor of Croydon, Safet Vukalic who survived the Bosnian Genocide and many faith leaders from across Croydon.  Students represented Riddlesdown Collegiate beautifully, with utmost respect and conduct.  We were very fortunate to be part of the ceremony of remembrance which was an important moment to honour the memory of the millions who lost their lives lost to genocides including the Holocaust, and those in Rwanda and Srebrenica and other atrocities.  The theme this year was ‘Stand Together’, and students involved in the trip on Monday also delivered assemblies across all four colleges last week which highlighted the importance of unity in face of adversity we still face today.
