This year, Courtwood will be taking part in the Grow Your Own Potatoes project, along with other schools from all over the country.  There is a competition at the end – so we could hopefully win some prizes for the school.
Children in Chestnut Class, Reception, Year 1 and Year 5 have been chosen to be our “Potato Growing Experts”.  They have already been keeping an eye on the seed potatoes as they were “chitting” in the classrooms and they have now planted all the potatoes in compost outdoors. The children will now be monitoring the potatoes for the next few months, to ensure that they are watered and cared for properly.  Harvesting Day will be in June and we will hopefully all be able to see the fruits of their labour!
This will be a great project for the whole school to be inspired by – learning how to care for and nurture growing plants and where food comes from.  We may even be able to cook and eat some of the crop that we grow!
