Gatton Park
On Wednesday 1st May, Reception went on an exciting school trip to Gatton Park. We had a fun packed day with lots of activities. Our morning began with the story of ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’. In groups we followed a trail of the days of the week to collect resources to sow our seeds and played games to help us learn about the different parts of a plant. Our morning session finished with a creative activity using natural materials to make a small scarecrow to keep away the birds. Our afternoon was again packed full of activities supporting our current learning topic of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Together we shared the story and followed a trail of the 4 stages of the life cycle of a caterpillar. In our groups we looked at camouflage and each made a camouflage disguise for a caterpillar using natural objects we could find around the trail. We finished off the afternoon looking at symmetry, matching the halves of butterfly and making our own symmetrical butterfly.
After a long day, the children had a quiet journey back to the school classroom where they are now eagerly watching and waiting for their beans to grow.
